I've recently really started posting on my blog (http://vernonkesner.com) and feel like I have some really relevant and 'worthy' information that would appeal to individuals interested in web design, internet marketing, reviews and the like.

My problem is that 40% of my traffic comes from crawlers/spiders.

I'm looking to build a successful blog that contributes valuable information with a large reader base.

How would you suggest getting the 'word' out about the blog? (Besides search engines/directories)

Same with mine. First comes the spiders, then (hopefully) the visitors.

The problem is that you are not alone. They are million sites dedicated to web design. I have the advantage that i write in Dutch (1.000.000 --> 1.000) and have specific interests (1.000 --> 10). The layout of my home site stinks, but my daily log is +500k in size.

Try to get as much backlinks as possible, but your ranking is not update immediately (it can take months).

It takes time to create user base...

Yes, I understand that. I was just hoping that some successful bloggers may be able to share some tips on things that worked for them to establish their reader base. I know "content, content, content". I'm not really talking about those types of things. More of the 'inner secrets' if you would like.
