'Ello,

I am thinking of becoming a web developer for my future job, but I was wondering what the pay for developers are? I am more interested in the coding and scripting aspect of creating websites than the design, does any one know what the average amount a web developer can get paid in England (United Kingdom)?

I have only just started University so still have a long time to go until I have to decide on a job (although it will be one in IT). I always thought web developers were well paid but I got told by someone in my class who worked in a web development company for work experience a year ago that they are not that well paid, so I thought I would ask here (found this forum on a Google search) about the pay in this field.

I know that a job isn't all about the money and is also about what I enjoy doing, but the thing is I enjoy doing many different aspects of computing such as web development, networking, computer repairs/building sort of things; so I would probably go for the best paid out of the areas I am interested in.

The reason I am asking this now is that next year I have a year’s work placement and I was told by lectures that it is better to look for placements early to find one I would like. So I am just wondering what type of IT field I should o my placement field in and one of the things I am considering is the money, not so much the money for the work placement, but after I leave University generally people can get jobs in the place hey did their placement. So I want a field of IT that I enjoy and pays well.

Thank you in advance El Barto.

The pay definately depends on the size of business you build for and the ability to satisfy each company. Personally I have had great success in this field (in the US...I have never ventured elsewhere). My web design company does well enough that I don't actually have to have another job, however, I do teach web design as well (remember to give back).

I modified this post to satisfy the powers that be. Sorry about the pricing information...won't happen again.

Folks, discussing the average salary of an employed position is ok, but discussing web design pricing between members of the profession is illegal in the USA. There's a sticky post atop this very forum which addresses it
