Search Engine Optimization

I recently built http://www.searchthewww.com in conjunction with blowsearch.com. I have been told that I have the option of using a CGI or PHP script in order to provide further customization. I am fairly new to developing and was wondering if anyone could point me to additional resources that might help with building an optimized search engine that can be scaled to include an affiliate program and a scalable database solution without requiring Oracle's crazy per seat pricing structure. Any feedback that can be provided on http://www.searchthewww.com is most appreciated.
