Hi guys

Can anyone recommend a free download of a fairly decent graphic/image program. I know there are a few free trials out there but as far as a simplish full free program, I can't see

Thanks a lot

Free or not, you can't beat The Gimp (http://www.gimp.org/).

I myself just downloaded this program, seems real intense. However, trying to download the right thing and get it working was a real pain. So allow me to try to make this as simple as possible for those who are using Windows like me.

This is a direct link to the GTK 2.6.9 installer:
http://switch.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/gimp-win/gtk+-2.6.9-setup.zip

Now you are ready to download and install Gimp. Direct link here:

You can't compare MS Paint with a real graphics editor program, although it can be useful for some simple tasks, it really sucks for most other tasks.
With the GIMP, you have far more possibilities: filters, layers, etc...

If Gimp is a bit too much for you, this one is a simplier program.

I use the GIMP on Linux but have found Paint Shop Pro to have a easier learning curve (Actually, I have been using it since its fourth version). The great thing about PSP is that its interface doesn't seem intimidating. If you DO want to "get into design" I suggest do in for PSP. Its cheap and very good. Jasc the parent company has now been taken over by Corel but you can still find older versions of PSP at BestBuy.com. The $150 (approx) is worth it! Also get some free image tools such as IrfanView.

Actually, I use MS Paint for almost ALL my graphics.

Most versions of Paint only work with BMP type images. Installing Office97 would add features that allowed you to work with GIF (non-animated) and JPG files as well. Not sure if the newer Office products do this as well.

Anyway, my point is that for most people, their MS Paint program only does BMP's. Not good at all. And for me, I need something that does animated gif's which I never found Paint to be able to do.

hmm, yes it can handle gif/jpg as well, and png i believe, but nevertheless, you can't even resize an image, you can only resize the canvas.

Yeah, Paint has its limitations, but mine does allow me to save as PNGs. I just find it the easiest to use for some stuff.

Don't know if you're interested, but I just reviewed some graphics programs as part of an article I just published:
http://kdla.ky.gov/onlinepubs/onepage/1105.htm.

FYI - GIMP is hard to install!
