Hi Guys,

Only just registered but have been lurking for a while! I've been given a monthly budget of £500 (around $860) to spend on promotion of a UK site since the jagger update wiped it from the face of the earth!.

I've considered PPC but i'm in a very competetive market (Mortgage and finance) and the CPC can be up to £10 ($17) and my budget will vanish within a few days.

So, given the question, can anyone give me advice on the best methods within my budget to

a) Improving SERPS results/ranking
or b) Drive traffic (preferably targeted) to the site for lead generation

Your expert thoughts or opinions on this would be much appreciated as I've tried various methods (traffic generators, link buying etc.) in the past but never seem to get a reasonable return. So what has worked for you?

TIA
Kal.

I would suggestion starting by making the most of / sorting the website first. Make sure the HTML validates, use header tags (eg. <h1>) appropiately. I'm not sure how important keywords are now to search engines, as I believe they are now focusing more on content.

Personally I'm always dubvious of traffic driving software that claims to guarantee high search engine results. One other thing that I believe now affects page rankings is the sites that link to yours and the words they use.

Want instant recognition? Want to be in all the search engines in a few hours? Want to have people find what you have when you have it? Want to do this at no cost at all?

Blog.

Go to googles blogger.com and get your blog right now. Get a name that is close to your business name, and take it. Put your picture logo on the profile. Each day write one great keyword filled article about what you have to offer. Give special deals each day. You do this and you will be in the top for your keywords in all the engines. Use the technorati tags for your keywords. Spend a few hours learning this and RSS and you will be up at the top without google on your website.

I can usually get anything in the main engines within 24 hours from a blog, and at least all the readers see it within seconds. My domain was banned by google and within 24 hours of the ban I got the blog and was back in the first page for my domain keyword on google through the blog. The site is still banned today but is listed on the first page (about number 4) as the blog.

You can send that 500 quid here! Just joking. Hire a writer for the blog with it and you will see your traffic back and up above where it was.

Excellent advice from onlinetv. By blogging you can gain enough traffic to pay for organic SEO or PPC campaigns to keep your site on top when the search engines become tired of blogs as they are done today. The main point is that internet promotion evolves and you need to take advantage of methods when they are hot.
