hi, i'm obviously new to this and i was wondering if you nice people could give me some suggestions to improve my site....be advised, it's not really supposed to be selling anything or something like that........it's just kind of a fun thing for our racetrack, but i would like to build it and make it key for informational purposes....any suggestions would be great
thanks

well, it depends,
if you're interested in re-coding your page in a standard-compliant way, you should drop the table layout, and use valid, semantic markup and style it with CSS.
Also those black and white dotted graphics are streched because they are too small, what you could do, after you've recoded your site, is have only a vertical row of the horizontal graphic repeated on the x-axis, and same for the vertical graphic (repeated on the y-axis)
Lots of black and white boxes - sort of like a crossword puzzle stuck in a blender! ;)
Here are just a few suggestions -
- Tone down the usage of the racing flag, maybe leave the background as is and omit the usage of the flag in the banner graphic. You'll want your page to be pleasing to the reader's eye as well as the design eye.
LCF gave you some good hints on fixing the distorted borders. Go with it.
- You're using copyrighted images - may want to pull those off until you've gotten permission from the owner. (Pepsi)
- At some point, you need to validate your coding: http://validator.w3.org/. Getting a real HTML editor/some HTML coding experience, in the future, wouldn't be a bad idea either.
Good Luck -

Also pick a color scheme and stick with it through out the site. Based on the logo, I would go with maybe red, blue, and grey. If at any point you start using green, yellow, or orange, change it to where it's one of the colors in the color scheme and it looks like it blends in well. The "Drivers Profile" page is a perfect example of trying to do too much with your colors.
Hi -
You've used a lot of 'gimmicks' - the waving flags,
mouse cursor text following, miscellaneous flag graphics
or car graphics - so much so that the important content
is really hard to find.
For example, the "home" page isn't even the first page
of your site! One has to scroll down nearly to the bottom
for an indistinct "Click here to enter...site.".
In addition to learning more about coding, you should try
and make the site as friendly to your guests as possible -
fewer, more concise links, and have "home" at the top
instead of the middle of that left nav.
What's the really important info. they might want to know?
Post current news/announcements on the initial page - and/or
a blurb about the location and what the site is all about.
Have fun,
El
