Hi again,
I've just added a background to the middle, modified the left column so that the nav doesnt go across 2 lines, and put an image next to the navigation to draw the visitors eye towards that. Do these make it look any better???
Cheers
Craig
It's getting better -- The width difference between the banner and the following content creates a disjointed look. I (still) think the entire page needs a container to create a centered focal point; one that limits the content area to the same width requirements as that of your banner.
The new one is better of course. One problem I noticed with the old design is that there is no focal point. When I visited the site I was not sure where/what you wanted me to look at as a visitor. Although the new design fixes this problem, I think there is more room for improvement. One way to do this is using different colors.
Other than that great going mate.

hey guys,
i think i have come up with a solution to the stetched feel that my site had previously in higher resolutions. It now calls a javascript to determine the resolution and depending on that, loads a different style sheet. The different style sheets have been made to fit the content well in the resolution that you are in. If you change your resolution when your on,
www.ecampsite.co.uk/index2.html (http://www.ecampsite.co.uk/index2.html)
you will see that it is displayed a bit weird, but if you then refresh the page, a new style sheet will kick in, try it and tell me what you think!!!
Cheers

Newer one is better in my opinion.

Looks like the exact same design to me. Possibly the javascript isn't working for me.
Do you really need javascript to resize? Couldn't you use margins based on percentages to get the same effect?

What was the inspiration behind the redesign? I do like the fact that you didn't completely alter the branding image. It still feels like the same site, with minor modifications. Have you considered keeping BOTH designs, thus offering your existing clients the same feel that they may already be comfortable with?

This could be used for accessibility concerns as well (creating an alternate stylesheet with larger text, perhaps). To see this in action, check out Jeremy Keith's website, www.adactio.com... He uses this concept in a really cool way.
I hope this helps with the redesign.

I hope the new home page will not continue to require javascript enabled for it to be seen at all. If so, it will be in breach of the Disability Discrimination Act IMHO.

Bummer on that article that comments are closed. Not that I want to comment, but they're closed to reading too which is not helpful. Thus I can't read to see if anyone brought up that style changer script's XSS vulnerability (I'm pretty sure one exists). It's not a huge deal, but it can be under certain circumstances.

I guess XSS will remain an issue as long as we use server side scripts, especially if you're using older versions of PHP. I understand PHP 5 to offer better security (I have no solid evidence at this point to support that claim). You could always hand the task of style-switching over to the user by employing the javascript routine, using the Document Object Model. The method degrades gracefully...
Those users with javascript disabled probably won't be concerned with stylesheet switching anyhow...

I have my own that is vulnerable as well (only a minor issue that can affect only exploited links back to the site using the script), but I do think there are server-side changers that aren't vulnerable to cross site scripting. I just haven't bothered to fix mine yet.
