How on earth (or actually on the web  ) do I EMBED a powerpoint presentation in to a HTML page?
What is the CLSID for it? (and other PARAM ?)

I don't think you can cross-browser. Easiest way in IE is to have some sort of a frame (iframe or regular) that you can load the ppt file into.

Best option is to convert it to a web format and offer that.

Next best option is to offer it as a download. If you do this you should link to the free powerpoint viewer download on the Microsoft site as well.

There is a "save to web page" function built into Powerpoint. Have you tried that? It worked for me a couple years ago when I used it. Don't know how browser friendly that would be. You can specify the size, compression and functionality of the presentation.

Download openoffice:) and use Impress to convert it to SWF format.
I haven't used this much, but I think it doesn't allow for animation, although it still functions like a presentation.

old thread.. but I want to share my experience too

Well, I can suggest to use Presentation To Video Converter
because using this tool you can convert powerpoint not only to flash as OpenOffice can, but also to video & animated GIF
