Hi,
Will you please review my website. www.bahamalouie.com. A few people have said to put a footer and to change the font. Does anyone here agree?
Do you think the banner is too big?
Thanks,
Louis

It seems a bit flat. It's hard to describe. Maybe it's the colors. The sidebar needs some padding and the background doesn't fill the viewing area, maybe that's part of it. Also, the links at the footer are no different than the text, and therefore don't look like links. The mix of serif and sans serif styles doesn't work for me.
Sorry for not giving more. I just kicked the tires and didn't really look under the hood. Viewed with Firefox 1.0.7.

I'd make sure the page background color is set and give the links a little action with CSS but it's a nice clean design.
Could the banner be optimized and the color enhanced? It seems rather dull compared to the other photos on the page.
I like the color scheme. If you enhance the banner, you may have to brighten those colors, too.
Your page took a while to load. Have you ever considered making your photos - on the homepage - thumbnail size (around 75px height) and allow the visitor to click on them to see a larger version? This would greatly reduce the file size of your page, and consequently speed up the download time.
Looking at the "Photos" page, you might consider enhancing the color of some of those photos, too. Web publication of a photo greatly reduces the resolution, so sometimes you have to make up for that by enhancing the color a little.
FYI - on the "Fish List" page, don't underline text which is not intended to be a hyperlink. It'll confuse your visitors... like me!
I have a nephew and two nieces that would kill to have some of the amphibians featured on your site. :)
Good Luck -

Thanks for the replies everyone.
I'll change the links on the bottom and at the fish list and try and enhance the colors and see what it looks like.
I got the background colors from the pictures with a color selector. I know there not web color safe but I've looked at them through about 10 browsers on Mac and Windows and they look the same.
I think I'm going to change all the font to Arial, a lot of people have said that the times was hard to read.
Again thanks for the replies.

Hi -
Yes, Times is a pain to read - unless a header or something.
The header and nav underneath, as well as the bkgnd. colors work really well.
The pages are much too long IMHO - so at least provide a link to the top ;-)
When viewing your photos it took a long time on dial-up - do you use two images -
a tiny thumbnail and a full-sized image that it links to? Or is the one large img. changed to a smaller size for thumbnail display? Also - all of the links "Back" when viewing an image take us to the exact same page when they should return us to
the Gallery.
Good for a beginner - can't wait 'til you learn enough to drop Front Page and table-based layouts!
Have fun in your lovely location,
El

The scenery is beautiful and I like the background color. Try making more pages instead of having one page that holds 10 pages worth of material. Each web page shouldn't be more than 3 to 4 page lengths...I'd say the first page alone is at least 10-12 page lengths.

Louis,
Looking through your site, there's lots I can learn about your home town. I think you have the right mindset for what's going on here - Content is everything. Imagine if the Wall Street Journal only focused on the aesthetic of their website. Who'd visit it? Considering the importance of your content, I'd focus on giving it a little breathing room...

I agree with LJK. You may consider switching to sans-serif font, like arial or verdana, or even something cool like Trebuchet MS. Traditionally they are easier to read on screen. Save the serif fonts like Georgia and Times for headers.
In regards to your markup and download speed...

These are some of the culprits of your site download speed. CSS will allow you to eliminate this unecessary markup.
your photos are to high quality lower down the quality by using a photo editing solution like photoshop or photoimpact or something like that, it is draining your bandwidth down and it makes the site take for ever to load. do this before you have to pay for extra bandwidth.
