I will be shooting some video's (very short) to put on client's web sites we manage in January. I am looking at Flash 8 upgrade but currently using Flash MX & Dreamweaver MX and this application I just read about called Flex Line. I was just curious what anyone who has exepience in web video would recommend. I currently have to edit our videos in Vegas Video. I would rather not edit in Vegas if editing could be done in Flash-which I am just learning and not sure about (or Flix).

I also have been checking out a trial version Camtasia. Some of our clients have insrtuctional videos/DVD's that I might convert for the web.

Would I need Camtasia if I have Flash 8 and Flex Line? I am not sure based on the program's descriptions.

I would like to be able to have a user just click on the video clip they want and not have problems with players and compatability.

Any thoughts on the above or advice would be appreciated as I am somewhat new to web video

You cant really edit in flash, it's not made for that. I would suggest just editing your video with your traditional editing software and exporting it as a quicktime or .flv file. If you want to export as .flv, you'll probably need a plugin. Ive never heard of Vegas Video so you might need to use After Effects to export to a .flv file. (Free plug-in at macromedia.com).

If you go with .flv visitors would only need flash player installed on their browser to view the movie. I personally prefer web movies in quicktime over .flv just because theyre quicker to do.

Hope you don't think this is a stupid question.

Can I use After Effects to open an .avi file?
What does it mean by export? Does it mean "Save file as ....flv"?

I have never used After Effects. I am looking for help to convert an .avi file into flash for video broadcast. Appreciate it if you can advice me on how to achieve it.

Yeah you should be able to import the .avi file in After Effects although .mpg or .mov video files tend to work better. Once in A.E. import the file. Then create a new composition and place the video file in the composition window. Then export to .flv. It might be helpful to try a simple tutorial to get you grounded.

heres a bit of info about the last flash part.

I'm using an encoder service that lets me put video right onto my website, as many of them as I want! It's as low as $9.95 a month for this capability. Check out my site, and see if this is what you're wanting. If not, this service does include other features like live streaming, pay-per-view and much more. www.online-affordablevideo.com . Tou won't need to download anything, and the people who visit your site won't have to download anything either. It's so easy to use, I could walk you through it......there is a "contact me" link on my site if you have any questions, and my yahoo ID for IM is tinalei2004........Best of luck to you, hope this helps!
