I saw a website that That had a navbar on it that I liked. I wrote him and got permission to use the stuff off his site. While looking over his site to see how he did it, I became aware of the fact it was listed under the creative commans license. When I started this it was simply a way to learn how to write more advanced css. But he did not use css. He used tables and js. I could convert it over to div's but when I tried moving the layout over to ext. css it broke. So I hired someone to do the css for me. It worked great and still serves it's purpose. I can compare the css to my attempts and learn how to do it. But I really like this navbar and now I have money tied into it. I want to use it in a bigger project which in 2 years I expect to offer for sale. Now if he agrees to sale the rights to the navbar to me this whole question is mute, But if he does not what do I need to do. Under the creative commons license can I recoup my expenses before offering the navbar for free. I have no problam providing a link to his website for anybody that wants to covert it to css and div's. but hate to spend money and then see them just take the navbar likewise once I get my out pocket money back it want matter since the navbar is a small part of the end product. How should I handle this.

Well I sort of see it like paying a guy to write the code from someone else's tutorial.
You can't honestly believe you have the right to sell it just because you paid someone to write some code for you. Even still, do you own the rights to the code the hired help wrote?
To be honest selling scripts is like selling lemonade, unless your 12 I don't think it's going to work out. Just my two cents on this topic. I mean no offence and I do hope it works out for you :)

Well on everything That he writes for me except the stuff thats allready license I do. That is part of the deal. And as for as the stuff thats already under creative commans license I do not want to sell the code but only the modifycation of the code is still there if they want to convert it and once I recover what I spent on converting it over to css and divs I have no problam giving it away after that. I have no problam with understanding that the creative commons license was meant so that people could not profit from work the auther meant to be freely available to the public. And no selling code is nothing like selling lemonade. It is more like writing a song or book. once it is filed under a license it is protected untill the auther releases it. I do not take offence after all that is why I posted here to get differant veiws on the subject.
You seem to have two veiws on it.
You can't honestly believe you have the right to sell it just because you paid someone to write some code for you.
That seems to say no. But then you say.
To be honest selling scripts is like selling lemonade
Which sounds like you do not think anyone can limit the sale or use of scripts.
So I still ask does the creative commans license stop you from recovering expenses as long as you do not create a profit.

When I said: To be honest selling scripts is like selling lemonade, unless your 12 I don't think it's going to work out.I just meant that only a 12 y/o could sell lemonade, as with scripts. Scripts are not in high demand, considering you can download many for free. A complete CMS would be something worth selling, even then you could probably only charge for a commercial license. So many factors in it.

Thats true, but I do not want to sell scripts. I want to include this in a website and sell that. As it turns out I won't even be using his script but a modified version of his images. Mainly his idea. he is not only the first one that thought of using these slanted images but the only one I can find now that has done it this way. Not only that but nobody I have asked or hired has made it work using an external style sheet. The expert I hired just wrote me back saying after trying he could not do it. I know how it can be done if I make some changes and drop the js but isn't that what the web really is about ideals and creativity. like scripts you can find images all over the web but if I am going to do this honestly I have to start by admitting if he did not build that website for me to see I would not have the creativity to come up with it on my own. Therefore the logical conclusion is even if I changed the images to something totaly diferant than his images he should have the rights he intended to protect under the creative commons license. The only thing it seems I am ending up with is that is the same as his is the results. He is good at what he does and it seems that he did it in the only way it will work. but that does not work for me so I am doing it differantly. As it turns out a lot differantly than even I thought. Is this line of thought corect. that is the whole point of getting differant veiws on the subject. I think what I have in mind might be closer to a small portal.
