Creating a chat room

I want to add a chat room to a website but I don't want it to be linked to one of those free services. I would like to install the chat somehow onto an NT/2000 server and then access it from via the website. What is the best way to go about setting this up? What options do I have?

you will need a server side language you are on a indows so your best bet is asp, or asp.net. I also suggest using applets to do this. Pick up a nice book on asp.net or asp and learn it or get a free service because a chat room is not a simple application
