I was noticing that some avatars, while they appear large, are still within the 50 x 50 px range.

Could someone tell me how some of this was done?

I tried a few things with the image my avatar was derived from but cannot duplicate the desired aspect.

Would this possibly relate to reducing the resolution, so each pixel was bigger? Some graphics programs can do this, on some formats.

1 pixel is 1 pixel. Irrespective of what resolution you save the image in, it will be displayed with same size on the screen (assuming you didn't change screen resolution). What you say would be true while printing.

Well, if one pixel is one pixel, then the screen resolution shouldn't matter then.

Anyways, I asked because I seen some avatars that appear to be larger than the 50 x 50 px restriction....so I was merely curious on how to create an avatar that has more recognizable detail without it being blurred or something.

Thanks for the responses.

Who exactly do you have in mind? (as an example of these 'larger' avatars)
