i'm sure this has been asked before, but i can't find it, so ...

1. what format (mpeg, avi, wmv, flv) is the most universal?
i'd like to NOT require page vistors to download a video player.
i'd like to have their default player play the thing.

i'm thinking that mpeg is the most universal, but the quality really sucks ! at least on my screen it does.

2. the code i'm trying to use is:
<a href="images/untitled.avi">Download video </a>

this is about a 35-sec video of a musician for his website. i've edited it via windows move and pinnacle studio. originally it was just over 1 minute.

any thoughts would be welcome.

mpeg is probably the most universal since Quicktime can play it, and quicktime works on both Mac and PC. Avi is also a quicktime file but WMP can play it.

Thanks for the info !

here is a link to my 'test' page for this before i make it public.
if anyone has a MAC and can try it, lemme know how it downloads and if it plays.
i haven't tried this with a dialup, but i can just imagine that it would take a while to download. i'm gonna put a disclaimer with it that it's best viewd with a 'non-dialup' connection.

user the 'download video' link, NOT the player picture.
