Hey everyone, I live in England as you may or may not know, and over here we have a channel on TV called BBC1. Well the're doing an IQ test at the moment and it's on TV as well as online. So even though your in America or where ever you can still find out your IQ (There's only 70 questions so it doesn't take that long).
Check out the site at:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/testthenation
I got 126 (same as last year when I did it).
These: are my scores:
Language - 11/12
Memory - 9/12
Logic - 21/22
Numbers - 9/12
Perception - 9/12
Anyway why don't you all have a go and see what you get.

numbers 3/12 (hey... i got 3 right!!! :) )
perception 4/12 (who's perception were we talkin about anyway?)
okay...
so...
i'm not British (those wieghts, measures, and money questions are NOT fair to those of us who actually have created our own system of calculating such things)
other than that...
the sun got in my eyes! I ran out of gas! I had a flat tire! I didn't have enough money for cab fare! My tux didn't come back from the cleaners! An old friend came in from out of town! Someone stole my car! There was an earthquake! A terrible flood! Locusts!

And her dog ate her study guide. Her roommate wiped out all of the bookmarks that she had just organized. The forum for some reason cleared out all of her PM messages she had stored up. Somebody on the message board has started a thread bashing Microsoft, and to top it all off she wrote this long reply to a post only to see somebody, not naming names, beat her to the punch. By the time she got around to the test she was in no condition to be seeing what her IQ was. :p

she wrote this long reply to a post long posts?
who?
ME?!!!
I confess!!!
But at least I was brave enough to accurately post my score from the dopey BBC test...
as though the number of pints of beer that I drink per day has any bearing on anything to do with my IQ.
I'm almost constantly as drunk as a skunk... and yet I'm far more logical than most skunks.... so that's all a bunch of crap! LOL!!!)
By the way... is the BBC still reporting that the Iraqi army is driving us back into the sea?
And I'm supposed to take their analysis of my IQ seriously?!
Good grief!
(oh... and the "drunk" part.... just a joke. Some people don't understand attempts at humor.. y'know  )
currently sober...
;) k
EDIT: Oh... and Yikes!!!! Spuffi knows waaayyyy too much about me  .
He obviously would score well in the Memory portion of that test! LOL!!!

Don't take IQ too seriously! Go khaki! :)
I got 123 last year (online version) and 136 this year (TV version).
I don't think the test is very good really because it depends too much on British knowledge, not on intelligence (as if we could define what that is).

How many Limeys are required to take an IQ test?
Two. One to answer the questions and a second to add 30 points to the score.

1. I was talking about the recent "Extension" thread.
2. I do have this ability to remember tid bits of info even though they will most likely never be of any importance later on. Just don't ask me about the important stuff because there's no room in my brain for that stuff. I have to store the tid bits somewhere you know. :p

According to that site 130
Language 11/12
Memory 8/12
Logic 20/22
Numbers 12/12
Perception 11/12
thugh I had to skip part of memory when boss came in :)
However my personal view is 80 + (10 * number of cups of coffee in last 3 hrs) - (5 * number of hours after work starts)
or thereabouts.

forget 'test the nation', why not 'test the world'?
Its a better idea than the Eurovision song contest.

I still got this feeling that this test is riged because why would they ask if you drink beer or not -_-

tsk tsk khaki. As far as I could see there were only 2 questions with British weights and measures. One was spot the odd one out, and another was a fraction question.....;)

EDIT: And the reason they ask if you drink beer and what music you listen to, is so they can try to find out which types of people have higher IQ's. So if all the people who get 150 listen to classical music and are stone-cold sober, then they can say people who listen to classical music and don't drink are likely to be more intelligent than others.

I got...
Language: 10/12
Memory: 11/12
Logic: 15/22
Numbers: 7/12
Perception: 9/12
IQ: 103
Of course I would probably have done better if the test had been in my native language (Swedish). Another thing to consider is the time limit. What are your opinions on this? Some people read faster than others. Does that make them more intelligent (like Adam said: "as if we could define what that is")?

that's pretty cool... i sucked at the numbers because i was tired of answering questions... and the same with perception... lol... i was in a hurry.. may have to retake it some other time.
my score was :106
language 9/12
memory 12/12
logic 18/22
numbers 5/12 (ha ha)
perception 9/12
OK then:
Language 10/12
Memory 12/12
Logic 19/22
Numbers 10/12
Perception 11/12
IQ: 130
My memory's always been good. Not sure why that should relate to IQ though.

I personally believe the time limit is awkward, but a necessity. While it would be best for any test (not necessarily intelligence, perhaps GCSEs as well :) ) to be freely timed, it is not really possible in this case.
I prefer the system used by the formal ABRSM Music Theory exams in the UK - you have a massive amount of time, but can leave when you have finished.
As I said, surely there is more to intelligence than just being able to add up, remember things or do whatever else IQ measures. What about creating web pages - does that indicate intelligence? ;) Intelligenc e can be expressed in so many different ways, I don't think a set of numbers can adequetly represent it.
Adam
I think you might be confusing things though. IQ is not intelligence but intelligence quotient, therefore it does not definately and finally say how intelligent someone is, but what their IQ is. Some autistic people are what is known as "idiot sauvants" (pronounced savants). They have all the normal signs of autism except for one area (normally art) at which they excel. There was a story of one child of 11 seeing Wetsminster Cathedral as he drove by on a school trip. When he got home he drew an exact replica of it to scale and with everything on it. Many people would call that child a genius, but if he took a traditional IQ test he might score less than 100. He'd get full marks in perception, but that would be it. All I'm trying to say is IQ is not the be all and end all, and if you have an IQ of 80 or 150 doesn't matter. To be quite honest it doesn't matter anyway, you're no less of a person no matter how low (or high) your IQ is. Just my feelings.

Does iq in web design involve creativity in creating hacks and workarounds? Making something that looks good in all browsers? or what? getting all the %'s to add up to 100 (maths/numbers)? Logic is important. Creating code which is short but does what is necessary. Perception obviously isn't much in web design, but it would be in other jobs - police/detective/anything else you can think of.
I can't remember what was in the language section, which ofcourse bodes ill for the memory section - important for everyone!!
time limit? anyone could add up numbers if they sat there for long enough. You could turn the screen upside down for those four nasty pictures in the perception one. you could get a mirror out for the other perception ones. The test wouldn't be a test without a time limit. If it takes you half an hour to find the answer, are you as intelligent as someone who saw it straight away?
On the other hand, does iq matter? you can have a fun sense of humor without adding up 200 numbers in 20 seconds!! LOL

WOW.....
some of you guys are taking this a bit seriously
it's a dopey internet test ;)
no 2 people are testing under the same conditions (other than a time limit).
i took mine late at nite (sometime after 11pm). i did it as a goof :)
does anyone really care what thier score was (i certainly didn't... i selected "C" on every question that bored me)
i agree with Dave, "you can have a fun sense of humor without adding up 200 numbers in 20 seconds"....
and that's the point.
adding up 200 numbers in 20 seconds is not fun (well... not for me it isn't)...
so i didn't do that.
c'mon guys.... it's an internet game. and if you are trying to turn it into more than just a fun thing to do....
then you need to have your intelligence examined! ;) lol
...plus...
you're no fun :(
spoken exactly like someone who scored poorly..... lol

Right as always, khaki.adding up 200 numbers in 20 seconds is not funNo, you get your computer to do it in 0.2 seconds. :)
A revised definition of intelligence, then? Intelligence: the ability to get other people/machines to do your work for you, so you appear capable. :D
Adam

Intelligence: the ability to get other people/machines to do your work for you, so you appear capable
Does that include all the people who post here saying 'please can someone sort this code out? sorry I can't pay you, but I can offer a link to your site in the 500th level of my site which noone will read?'
Then again, only some of them succeed... :D :D :D
maybe we'll have to modify that definition slightly...
Intelligence: the ability to aquire and apply knowledge.
IQ is a persons reasoning ability. (Oxford dictionary)
So if your reasoning is screwed up, you can still be intelligent. And funny.

have you gone mad! LOL :)
'preciate the props Adam....
but i gotta shoot that down (before someone else does it to me :( ).
and besides...
i'm usually more fun than right...
but that's okay... i don't mind
but thanks for the kind word Adam
(you may have gone mad... but you're sweet ;) )
