The Magus

Good Evening
Having successfully posted a message in another section, I have decided to go for broke tonight.
I started from scratch a month ago designing a website for a friend knowing absolutely nothing on the subject and have progressed slowly.
I have finally got to the point that I think that frames on my pages will solve the problems of slow download time by leaving the banner across the top and the links in a frame on the left.
I have however read in some old PC mags which a friend loaned me that frames mess up search engines and should be avoided.
Is this still true??
I also noticed some code for "no frames" for old browers which could be put in to allow search engines to read some of the site. Does anyone have a comments on this idea??
Thanks and forgive if I'm in the wrong section
