I am having some problems with search engines for my company's site. The meta description is there(brief, but there).
The meta keywords are fairly lengthy, as I hope to do fair on a search engine.
No robot. Should I? Or just not let the search engine index my site?
I have submitted to Google(now twice and plan on more), Lycos, and many others, as well as paid for submission at www.website-submission.com (Gold Packet) and am waiting for some results from that.

I have tried everything I can, but what do I need in order to get a fairly good search response from (say) Google?

Thank you in advance.

Btw, I think there is some sort of general rule on advertising on these boards(like others), correct? If so, then I won't post my company's site, though it would be simply to get opinions and criticisms on it.

Does anyone have any suggestions or advice?

Meta tags are important, but how long have you left between submitting and checking? It can take months to getlisted in some engines. There is some listing out there somewhere with most wanted words - e.g. no capitals, and which form of a word is used most - computer or computers or personal computer or pc sales or pc.

There's lots of info out there - I think I got most of my info off yahoo.

Hmmm...I have been using some reference books for search engine secrets *The Complete Reference to Web Design*.
However, the link you provided is *very* appreciated. Thank you for your assistance.

Btw, what are your opinions on paying for mass submission(like the one I mentioned in my first post)?

Also:
www.freewebcounter.com I have found to be very handy in monitoring any traffic going into my site(which is almost nothing as of the moment.:p)

do you mean FFA (ad farms) which send out mountains of spam? Or paying a software company for submission to 1000 unsused search engines?

I'd go for paying for a few good search engines like google, altavista, ask etc. The popular ones.

Software company for submission. I used, specifically, the one above. Although I do plan on either getting one that submits to the larger ones, or possibly advertise on them directly(the cheapest on Yahoo and Google, I think is $5,000 or so a month to be ranked top, so maybe not those).

Thank you very much for the help, guys.
Question:
Is Ineedhits (specifically for Inktomi) any good? As in, has anyone had any luck through them?

You may want to ask that as another new thread.

You're probably right. I'm familiar with web forum etiquette and thought this might go here as it is related, but thank you, nonetheless.
