1. This isn't a site to get quotes from. If you wish to commision someone to work on it, there are other sites for that.

2. The biggest thing in terms of design is the color scheme is far too bright. The biggest thing in terms of code is use of tables for layout.

I agree, the colors are way too bright. I'm not here to find consulting work but if you need help with a design I know an AWESOME graphic designer who does professional work that might be able to help you as a reasonable price. Let me know, but I'd defiantely rethink the color scheme.

Spufi: sorry if I've posted my needs in the wrong place, please can you suggest a few sites which may be able to help me, find a designer.

Would be good to have a few options just in case. I am desperate.

You like primary colors, hey ? lol.
Ok, I also like primary colors, especially for the theme of your site. Red is good, keep it. Yellow is good too.
DROP THE BLUE (or turquoise, or cyan, or whatever it is).
Links in pale red makes your site a tomato soup. Change their color, because it's really too much.
Drop the dashed borders. People are not trying to make an origami with your website. Solid borders would look better.
Other than that, try making the 3 columns of content the same height. It looks a bit messy.
And nothing more to say, your site is not that bad, it just needs a few adjustments. I don't think you really need a designer, you've done good work so far.

BTW; about the colors being too bright, I cannot really judge. I'm on a notebook, and my screen is different from cathodic screens, but to me it's ok. It's caribbean we're talking about, not the US government. ^^

Nice layout, easy to navigate. Just a suggestion, don't use brightly colored background. They hurt the eyes and it makes the background stand out more than the content of your page.

I did not design the site myself, wish I did, but the ideas of colour and structure is mine, the problem is my friend built the site and I have to climb mount Everest to try and get him to make changes for me. I keep offering to pay him but he refuses the money, in turn I find I can't tie him down to make changes.

I've had people say the site is a bit hard to navigate, It's meant to record peoples past schools, but no new people seem to be doing this, I need the info on the registration form, but can't get my friend to do this, well he says he can't really do it, and so I need somebody to carry that out.

I agree about the borders, and the need to make sure the layout is more equal at the end.

FRET your're right the colours though bright I confess is in keeping with the Caribbean theme, it's hard for a Western person to understand the colour scheme, but trust me if you walk around the Caribbean you'll see lots of bright colours, and the site is aimed at Caribbean people. I also agree about the red and cyan it does look naff, but remember I'm doing it second hand.

Overall I think I just need somebody who can touch up the site and make me happy and pleased enough to start advertising it to those it's aimed at.

Thanks for the advice so far people, I am taking it all in.

LOL. My name is Ness, but thanks for the mispelling of my last name (du Frat), ^^
I know how it is in the Carribean, and it's true, lots of bright colors, really. If your site is aimed at Carribean people, you should definately keep the bright colors. Don't make a dull site nobody will want to see.
So your friend doesn't want to make changes, hmmm ? Then you could try making them, no ? It's your website, you do whatever you want ! And remember, if you have difficulties, we're here to help you !!!

I love the site!! The red and yellow is great...but the blue needs to go...Also I think you should make the titles a little bigger maybe 2 or 3 fonts?? just a suggestion...Also have you thought about a banner with the name on it at the top of the page?? Just a suggestion:)
