Hey fellow devs,
I've just put together a new Flash site, and I need some opinions!
Please take a look:
http://www.BirdInTheCity.com
Also, does anyone know a good way to get my site out there? I am trying to get some freelance work, but I don't know how to reach possible employers (and unfortunately, I have ZERO money for ads). Any ideas?
Thanks,
Brian Bird

first off, validate (http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.birdinthecity.com%2F) your code. I love your site! VERY creative, and VERY well done.

I think that you'll have a tough time getting in google with a flash site as it has nothing to crawl...but i really do think your site is cool. it made me hungry for some doritos and a peanut butter cup! Nice work! :) The only addition I would make would be to add sound to the product being dropped...I turned my speakers up and didn't hear anything, so assuming there is no sound for that part.

It is really cool, and if you want google to cral your site, you should also make a HTML version of the site, for 2 reasons:
1.) google will be able to crawl it
2.) for users that don't have flash they can view the non flash site version.

Love it. Its simple, yet captivating. I had to make sure I visited each page to see what might be there. I wouldnt worry too much about having an accessible, google friendly site and it is only a personal one, but it doesnt hurt. I like the short movie also, I watched it a couple times. All in all great work.

Thanks so much for the excellent feedback. I am definitely planning on creating a non-flash site, but I've gotta find the time first! ;)
It's definitely true that I won't get ANY hits from google, if I don't create something that it can crawl. Does anyone know whether it's even worth it to create meta tag data these days? Does that make any difference?

I would add them, it doesn't hurt to have them.
Search engines read the tag to see what it does, such as a description, or keyword meta tag. This will help with higher rankings, and will help the search engine when choosing what your description will be for the page description. It will also help so it knows what key words to look for, the enginge will add some of it on in from time to time when looking though your page content.
A tag you probably don't want in this case is one that will tell a robot not to look at your page, and not to index you within their database, so don't get one of those.
metadata is a website who made the meta standards, they should have alot of info on meta tags http://dublincore.org
Whoa. I've never seen a site so hip & cool before.
Just... WOW!

I like it, well done. Maybe put some roll overs in the links so it will be easier to navigate.

Hey guys,
Thanks for the all the input. I was also specifically curious whether the "back" and "forward" buttons work on your browser.
Can you tell me if so, and what browser you are using?
Thanks,
Brian

First, very good design. It makes you look to see what is next.
3 things:
1st: I think a very little color in the surround screen area might add something.
2nd: I am having problems with the back button. Doesn't work at times.
3rd: Building hits. You might take a look at my site and we could share links.
I would put your link under a name such as "A Site Worth Looking At." Sharing links is a good way of helping each other get more visitors.
Take a look if your interested: www.openoursite.com
You used a very nice approach for your home page.
Thanks

Can't get to it any more. Flash 7 is the latest available for my system.

hey guys,
thanks for the tips, I will definitely revise the candy bags when I get a free moment.
As for being Flash-8 only. Unfortuntely, it was a sacrifice I had to make. I know that not everyone has it (or is able to upgrade). But, since my goal was to push the limits of design, I utilized a number of functions that are specific to Flash 8. During the design process, I researched how easy it would be to do this in Flash 7 (or earlier), but I decided that it was nearly impossible to do it well, considering the HUGELY improved video capabilities of v8.
Once again, thanks for the feedback.

Very nice work. I like.
1. Many be a little color in the surround area, like maybe the bird.
2. I am having problems using my back space key when in your site.
3. Hits. Well, I might suggest that we swap links to each others site and we will both gain visitors. Mine is also very new and the hits are starting to come very good. Naturally, I want more just like you do.
