I like the design (and the Tux golf shirt :) ) but you've got a layout problem visible in Firefox -- right side under the banner, both sides above the footer.

Nice design!
You might add a container with a border around your navigation menu -- it just sort of floats there, like something is missing. And, this is a picky observation, you might move the navigation closer to the left edge, so that it aligns with the bottom of the banner. That way, the Welcome text won't be so close to it.

Could the ads be displayed horizontally, so that there isn't such a large blank space in the content area?

I agree with KDLA on the alignment of the left navigation closer to the left edge. I think it will deffinitely give it a more refined appearance.

Some other notes:
- The logo looks pretty messy. I think you may be trying to give it that silkscreen look, but it detracts from the clenliness of the site. Also the right hand side of the banner looks unfinished.
- The colors in the footer of the page doesn't match the body above it.
- The Contact Us at the very bottom of the page should be moved to a more prominent area of the site. Currently it is almost hidden unless someone scrolls all the way down. This should be moved to the left navigation area.

Other than that I think once you make some minor adjustments you'll be headed in the right direction. Nice job.
