I have a bit of a puzzle here...I recently installed Windows XP Home SP2 on my fathers computer and we proceeded to install some programs after the needed drivers and all were installed.

We installed things like Majonng, Spy-Bot and so forth yet they do not show up in the program menu....though it can be confirmed by checking the program file folder. What is going wrong there?

Secondly..I copied some saved bookmarks to my fathers computer yet they don't show up in his favorites Folder even though they have been copied to it.
Furthermore I noticed that in the "Documents and Settings" Folder..there are two user folders...One is named "Dad's" and the other is named "DAD...." with a bunch of numbers in it. So for giggles I copied the bookmarks to the favorites folder in the one with all the numbers..sure enough they show up.

So I deleted the "Dad's" folder..but something is hosed up and I suppose I shouldn't have let my father install the XP himself..maybe he clicked something he shouldn't have.

So what should I do?

Third..and I am embarrased to even ask but how do you configure Windows Explorer to open links in a full sized window instead of a tiny one?

Thanks very much to whomever can help me.

Installed programs can either appear under the user that installed them or under "All Users" depending on where the install program decides to put them. To get them to appear for other users simply copy the entries from one user to the other. To do this go into the "Profiles" folder within the operating system folder and then into the appropriate user folder and look for a folder called "Start Menu".

Windows XP stores users profiles in the "Documents and Settings" folder, each user has their own folder. Sounds like you have two folders for profiles, but only one profile in the registry. Something must have got messed up somewhere for the shortcuts for one user to be placed in a different user profile, might want to repair Windows to try and fix that if this is the case.

Well..my father is the only registered user for his comp so no other "users" are using it..except him..naturally. But I will check the profiles..however since he has a very old Hard Drive..I wonder if some snippets of info are interferring since we last had XP Professional and reformatted to instal XP Home Edition...Thanks for the help..I do appreciate it.
