I have an Emachines computer that, due to technical issues, had its motherboard replaced a while ago. The issue is that emachines doesn't give you a XP Install disc, they give you ghost image, so it just formats your primary drive and installs some files.
In hopes it would just work, I used the "recovery," ghost image disc, and, uh, yeah...didn't work. Windows just asks if you want to start it with safe mode, or normally, and no matter what you choose, the same dialog just comes up again. I have the driver disc, but I don't know how to install the drivers while it's in this state...of course, I borrowed a new XP install disc from my sister, but I can't activate it, because she'll need it for her PC.
If someone told me where the drivers need to be, then I could plug the harddrive in as a slave upstairs, and maybe copy the driver there manually...or told me how to properly use the driver disc (it doesn't come with extensive help for this situation, and the floppy it can produce does nothing, aside from produce the error "ntldr is missing..." something like that).
