I need to change three pages on a website from .htm to .ASP. My dilema is 40% of the hits to those pages get come via search engines.

I can easily make the old .htm page have a one second redirect to the ASP page but will that hurt the ranking on the search engines?

Is there a better/more advisable way to do this? Is a "this page has moved click here" page better? Do they just suck up a drop in activity for a little while until the new pages are re indexed?

Searching Google is vague since they recommend not doing redirects on index pages (will need to do that eventually) but these are sub pages.

Looking to hear suggestions or experiences.

Guess I stumped everyone. Oh well I just "changed" them and changed all the links inside the website to go to the ASP pages.

Hopefully the spiders will hit those links from the home page and re index the pages before they realize the htm pages are redirecting.
