Hi all,

Please have a look at the following site and give some opinions on overall design etc and suggestions to make it better!

http://www.trebaron.co.uk/newsite/

So far its just a single page so the links don't work. Its aimed to fit in with the companies corporate colour scheme (orange and blue).
I think the four photos at the top of the page will cycle through a vareity of garden related shots using flash eventually.

It my first attempt to create a table-less design! (which went quite smoothly thanks to some of this forums users, you know who your are!).

Cheers
Aran

It looks pretty darn good to me. You could get rid of the javascript on your left menu and just make them links. You can do onMouseOver effects using stylesheets. Just create an anchor entry, change its display type to block, and create Link and Hover background images.

The bottom text that is white on orange is a little hard to read, but other than that I have no complaints.

thanks, i'll take your comments into consideration. I put the Javascript on the menu rollovers as its quick and easy for mock up purposes. I think I will make them css eventually.

It's pretty good and nice to have a look on it.Wishes for you to get in done professionally.

I REALLY LIKE IT!

One thing, on a high res. monitor, there's a lot of orange on the side. Since that's a bright color, it tends to pull my eye away from the text. Would a solid blue be better?

Another, don't underline text that isn't intended to be a hyperlink.

Lastly, there isn't much contrast between the orange bgnd and blue text. If your visitor happens to be color-blind, he/she will have a tough time reading that.

Thanks for your kind comments.

Good point about the title text thats underlined.
Ive been struggling with a background, I think you may be right with the dark blue idea.

validate (http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.trebaron.co.uk%2Fnewsite%2F) it looks really good, the only thing I would change is the link color at the bottom of the page. the white on orange was a little hard for me to read. other than that, it looks really really good!!

Updates done!
But am having trouble with backgrounds. Can't seem to come up with any ideas that wont ruin;
a) the colour scheme/balance
b) detract from the design.

Also was thinking of centering the page? any thoughts?

I wouldn't center it. It looks good the way it is on the left. The excess white-space does distract though. Sorry, I view your page at a hi-res. Perhaps an off-white, or a light shade of blue or something will work? Other than that, I think you have your design pretty nailed down. I like that you changed the link color at the bottom. My eyes thank you.
