Hey all,

I have a decently old computer (around 6 years old) and recently my hard drive just fills up with no real files in it. I'll reformat and reinstall and then a few weeks later it will pop a notice up saying its running out of disk space. I have a 40GB hard drive and a 160GB hard drive (I use for my files, etc) so I'm not sure why its filling up. Is there any way to figure out what's causing it? Could it be related to Virtual Memory or something? I only have 128MB (i know... it stinks) so I get the notice of Windows using more virtual memory. If so, is there a way I can delete it, etc? Any ideas?

Thanks.

Several ways:

#1: Goto your c:\ drive (or whichever is filling) and then for each folder: right click->properties. If you find one that is really big, then goto that folder and check all the subfolders, etc.

#2: Use windows search to find really big files. (Depends on your Windows version)

#3: If you're a really technical person, try installing a linux distro. If you're not, don't try it--murphy's law will get you. :p

Once you figure out what it is, post here or do whatever.

If you leave your computer running all night and have an old version of windows (or even a fairly new version), it could be a program that is leaking RAM. Try opening Windows task manager and checking for programs using GB's of memory.
