For web design and graphics in general, which should I pick?
Fireworks 8? or Photoshop CS2? Is either easier to use or have more functions? What are the Pro's and Con's?

I feel that Fireworks is more user friendly for begginers, but I feel that photoshop has more potiential. Then again I have no idea what I'm talking about.

Haven't looked but, remember, Adobe bought Macromedia so how long do you think Fireworks will be around?

im geussing theyll keep fireworks around for awhile aslong as every other mac program, theyre kinda like a cheaper dummed down version(not much cheaper, not much dumbed down) of the adobe series, macromedia has a following and why would they want to stop selling products to those people

Photoshop is infintly better. Fireworks would be much evenly paired up against Photoshop's little sister ImageReady.

As for the what will happen now debate, see the adobe official blog, where they want your opinion: http://blogs.adobe.com/jnack/2006/02/photoshop_fireworks.html

I like Photoshop a lot better ... I found Fireworks more confusing. But - now they both make sense. I still think Photoshop is a lot easier and does a lot more.

Fireworks is for Noobs, ask any real webdeveloper/designer, photoshop has 10 times as many functions and filters then Fireworks.
and then u get those nasty slicing in firworks.
Photoshop is definetly for the those who know what they doing

This is just my opinion...sometimes I create drawings for my site..but I often create them in Flash..then save it as a PNG then open it in Photoshop.

With a PNG, all the colors and highlights I add to the images remain and are not distorted or discolored like it does if I save them as a GIF or JPEG.

Fireworks is nice too...but I don't really like using it too much except for making simple animated GIF's

Photoshop, like the others have said..is far more flexible and usable. I personally like the layout and I find everything easy to use.

As a sidenote..Fireworks was more fun to use when I had some filters installed on it but..I lost all those added filters when I reformatted my drive...and the disc I got them from got corrupted..(sniff..). My favorite filter was called "Flood" which was, as I recall, really for Photoshop..it was very cool....it provided a quick and easy way to create water....I miss it so much! :(

But if you were to have only one program..I would definetly go for Photoshop!

Photshop without a doubt.
As well as having a lot more potential there are also a lot more online tutorials i found for Photoshop than i did for Fireworks.
