    After laying with this I see your problem.
    To see what was really happening I used 'Firebug':
    <table onmouseout="console.debug('blah',null)">

    hmmm

    You threw me with saying you had "overridden" the the events for the individual cells.

    onmouseover / out are standard events.

    This works:
    <table onmouseover="alert('did this')"...

    Not sure why you would want to use an iframe.

    Try researching innerHTML or append.

    Say you have a div on the page with id 'blah'.

    Then you can say document.getElementByID('blah').innerHTML =...
