Member image in a "community"

Not sure if this is an SQL issue or a PHP issue, but I think it's both, so I'll post it here...

I want a user of a community to be able to upload an photograph (of themselves for example) onto their profile page. The 'upload image' field would be displayed on the main "edit profile" page...

My question is (bare with me whilst I explain)... how do I tell the "profile page of user_id=1" to get the image from location "/imgs/x.jpg"?
Do I put php code exactly where I wish the image to be displayed?

Also, how do I tell the page to upload the image to the "imgs" folder... and then (I presume/guess) tell the database that the image for "user 1" is x.jpg in the "imgs" folder?

I hope this is clear; if not, please let me know so I can clarify!
