Live help system

Hi I want to develop a live help system for some of my websites.

Problem is i don't really know where to start, communicating over the net etc. can anyone give me some ideas where to start looking, or some links.

What do you mean live help? Easiest way would probably be a multi channel web based chat client.

Sorry should have been more specific.

There'll be a number of operators ready to chat with users, when the users enter the queue the operators will be able to see whose next in line and chat then assign themselves to chat with that person.

It will have to have some sort of interface on the operators end for seeing who is in the queue, etc.

Maybe PHP is not the most suitable language for this but if you do want a PHP solution check this out

is it possible to have the operator side an applicaiton, like java, c++, vb. and have that administer the users etc.

then it will have to communicate with the web page to see whos waiting to chat etc

Probably! And if you are going to do the server side with Java why not do the client side with it too?
