Onion Skinning/Matrix effect

I will like to know how to make an effect that looks like onion skining. I don't really know the name but it's looks like the effect in matrix, an object movement from a smaller size to a bigger one or the movement path from one piont to the other.
Can anyone tell me how to do that?
