Is there a place to explain what the little symbols in the left column mean. I checked FAQ but did not find anything.

Some have a 'briefcase' , some a closed envelope, and some (like my postings) a closed envelope with a "black dot".

Oops! most are at the bottom of the page. But what's the black dot mean?

Glad you found the icon index - the black dot signifies a thread you have posted to. So until I hit Submit reply, this thread will not have a black dot for me. Once I submit this post it will henceforth have a black dot on any browser I have logged into this site with.
