A javascript gif question

Hi, I have a some javascipt that expects a gif when its used. I would like to rotate some back ground color along with the gif so that the background color changes as well as the gif. Is there a way to include some html background colors in next to my gif? I tried doing so but then it won't call the gif. Is this a really dumb expectation or could it be done? change the style.backgroundColor of your img element that contains the .gif file
