External HD and windows

I have an external HD, and I was wondering is there a way to get windows to always assign that drive with letter F: because most of the time it does, but sometimes it gives it E:

Is there a setting or something to tell windows to only assign it letter F: because i have a backup software that is very nice, but it looks for drive letter and it is getting annoying to manually change it every so often.

I don't think you can, I may be wrong, but usually Windows assigns letters by when they are connected. You can specify a certain name, but I don't think you can assign letters.

You can change the drive letter, but I don't know if it will cause it to ALWAYS do it from then on.

Thats what I currently do, when I need it to be F: I go into manage and tell windows to change it.

Gotcha, I thought you were changing the software. The only other thing you could try is to occupy the letters c, d, and e. Hope you figure something out
