Testing SSI

I have been trying to include a vertical pop out menu which I cannot see if it is working unless I upload the files to my site.

I wonder what others do when faced with this problem. Is there any way to test if the various text and css files are working without uploading???

I have just installed the xampp server on my machine for testing this type of stuff - works well.

yeah, apache and php are free, so you can setup your own PC as a mini-server, then access the files locally first
