create real time chat sites

I need to create a chat page on our web site and i have looked at some options but, what advice can you give me on the best and easiest way to maintain and create it. Also i need to be able to have access to the history of the messages. can anyone help me?

I would think that Java would be the best bet for a chat app. If you are still interested in PHP, take a look at http://php.resourceindex.com/Complete_Scripts/Chat/

hey do you know if you can keep track of conversations and be able to recall conversation history's with a java app?

I don't know. I would assumb that there are some that do this... Khalid is our Java guru, so maybe he can answer that for you...
