    <td background> not viable?

so dreamweaver and everything else keeps throwing up a warning light telling me that my background tag inside a table's "td" tag is invalid

but it actualy does what i want it to do!

    what gives?

There is a difference between the W3C specification and software vendor's implementation.

Or, consider it a "browser extension" to the specification.

Many browsers still support dead (ancient) works.

well i have a "dead" cell that should exapnd when the body text in the cell next to gets too long

by sticking in a background="x.jpg" in the TD tag it gets filled in and stretches itself out accordingly

ive been trying to do play around with a "<div style="BACKGROUND: url(images/filler.jpg) repeat">" style tag but it just doesnt do it.

    :S

    lil help?

    cheers.

What do you mean? You don't see the image? The style attribute needs to be lowercase, maybe that is the problem. If not, try adding ";white-space: pre" to the style. If that doesn't work, try posting on the CSS forum.
