    Wal-Mart uses Dynamic Drive script

I was looking at LCD prices this morning on walmart.com and just happened to view the source of the page I was on (I swear I can quit anytime I want to) and noticed the following familiar statement in their source:

AnyLink CSS Menu script- Dynamic Drive DHTML code library (www.dynamicdrive.com). This notice MUST stay intact for legal use
Visit Dynamic Drive at http://www.dynamicdrive.com/ for full source code

Now, don't get me wrong, I am totally for not reinventing the wheel...I was just surprised that a giant like walmart would use someone else's code. Is it an oddity, or is this the norm?

It wasn't a "giant like walmart". It was some guy sitting in a cubicle that found code that worked for him.

At least in respect to big government entities (which I work for), we use as much open source/free code as possible. Usually, it's because we don't want to pay a programmer to create it from scratch. If it's already out there, we're saving money.

@drhowarddrfine - good point. It makes me wonder what their change mgt processes are to get a change from their dev environment to production.

@KDLA - That's smart business...and surprising. I have worked for the fed govt for 20 years and have yet to see money saved on purpose

Guess it depends on who: management or IT staff!
