Agreed, but try going to a company that still uses Win NT and use one.

At least two computers at our school are running Win98
USB key drivers don't come on 98. I think we still have some win95 computers.

USB ports are easier to access on HP computers. The Dell ones are covered by a piece of gray plastic.
Wow, I haven't posted in this thread in quite a while.
    This is funny:

Not sure what you're talking about. On the Dell that I'm using at work right now, which is one of the cheapest they sell, I'm looking at 2 handy usb ports up front and there are 4 more in back - no gray plastic cover.

Really? Well, on some of the Dells at school they've got these annoying covers. The one I'm using right now doesn't, but it is a very old model.
The Dell towers have the covers. (At least the cheap ones)

I can't believe this thread is still alive... wow.

The debate on HP's vs. Dells will never end. I use Dell PC's and HP laptops. The Compaqs are very nice, much more so than our Dell laptops, in my opinion. But the new dell models are really cool too. Oddly enough, the motherboard is on the other side of the computer on the new Dells, really weird. Plus they use all SATA hard drives now too, which if very nice. USB ports on the front are not covered anymore, and are easy to access. They no longer include PS-2 jacks for a mouse and keyboard, you have to use USB devices, but there's like 8 USB ports total on the machine, plus one on the Dell keyboard, so you've got plenty.

[edit] The Compaq laptops have very nice touch-pads that allow down and side scrolling. The screens are very clear and crisp. Multiple USB ports/serial/LPT/monitor and so on. Actually, I think the newest Compaq Presario's no logner have serial jacks on them, which is ok for the most part. Serial isn't widely used anymore, especially on laptops. The Compaq's are flat and easy to carry, unlike the Dell's which are contoured for style and take up more space.

    22 to 16... Cool!
I'm glad Dell has improved their USB design, however I don't understand why they would want to get rid of PS-2 jacks! Some of the best mice (mouses???) I've used have been Ps-2. Nobody uses serial anymore. The only things I've got that use serial is a two button two axis joystick I rarely use, a MIDI adapter for my keyboard and an old any-key keyboard that I used on our old gateway, running win 3.1.
Does anybody remember or have an any-key keyboard?

I've not read the BTX specification but perhaps Dell is using BTX motherboards now and that is the reason for the lack of PS/2 ports. PS/2 ports are somewhat outdated though, since USB can do the same job, it'd be better if the back plane just had a couple of ethernet ports and some USB ports. Onboard sound is OK I guess but it uses the CPU so I prefer to use a sound card.

Yeah, it is good to use cards to keep less processes on the processor.
