    if file upload field was filled

    I have the following in a form:
    <input type="file" name="item_photo" tabindex="18" />

    sometimes it will have a file uploaded.. other times..users will not have to upload a file... How can I tell if anything has been uploaded?

    I know empty does not work with this... Any ideas?
    Thanks for the help.

    Try this:
    PHP Code:
    if(!empty($_FILES['item_photo']['name']))
    {

    // a file was uploaded
