    Question Frames & Scrolling

Okay...on my site, I have frames (obviously)...and I have 2 questions...one or both of which could help me fix my problem. First off, my site is

    http://chocobojoe1.tripod.com/

and if you go there, you'll notice a horizontal scrollbar at the bottom of the central page.

    A) What's causing that and how can I get rid of it?

    B) Is there any way to only restrict HScrolling in frames, rather than using the entire SCROLLING="no" command?

the reason you have the scroll is because something does not fit on the page. just to prove the point i copied your frame page down and opened it in a larger window. no scroll. you clearly have something in that page that is too wide for your 80% specification in the frameset.

as i am off to bed i will not spend any more time debugging this one. but since you know your page it should be easy for you to find.

as for individual settings for the scroll bars in the frame - don't think you can do that.

    ???

How could there possibly be anything too big for the 80%? That's what I want to know...because everything is in a table set to 70% width...

Everything in the page (except for the "Site News" headline) is contained in a table set to 70% width. I put borders on the table and checked it within my frames...nothing is sticking over the side of the page, yet the scrollbar is there.

I know it must have something to do with the table because there are pages where I didn't use a table and there is no scrollbar (if you want to know what I mean, look in Fun Stuff).

I get a hor scrollbar in IE 6.01 but don't get one in Mozilla.

I assume this is a bug in IE that can probably be worked around, but I won't debug other peoples <table> layout mess when I gave up that abuse myself 2+ years ago.

My recomendation for you is to start use CSS instead of tables for layout and use this doctype on your pages
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd">
and check your code at http://validator.w3.org
