In simple English..RSS?

Can someone explain to me in simple terms what an RSS feed is? ATOM? and OPLM? Thank you.

a really symple syndication feed is like a message feed that allows you to inform people of updates without using email. an example from my site (http://kayeskinner.com/feed2.xml):

in order to post content that isn't just text you need to use the ASCII code for '<' and '>.'
