Hey,
Camstudio is good but depending on what you're using it for, I've found that Camtasia is the best (although pricey. Utipu; http://utipu.com is also worth checking out.
Cam Studio is good but I've found that Camtasia by TechSmith is the best, although it is pricey at just under $300.
Utipu (http://utipu.com) is also worth checking out because of their quick uploading features and the ability to put it on a usb key and use it where ever you need to.
Windows Media Encoder is a free download from Microsoft. Yes, it's true...Free from Microsoft. I realize the "Free" and Microsoft are rarely if ever used in the same sentence.
The encoder will do screen captures as well as encoding for live streaming. So I recommend it both on the price (free) and on the versatility (screen capture and live streaming). http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...r/default.mspx

Sign up on Giveawayoftheday. One day (lol), they gave out something called "Demo Creator" and it is absolutely awesome. So you could use some free thing, and wait for them to give out something that's good. Such as Demo Creator.
I am looking to make some video tutor of my computer screen. Is using a camcorder recording over my shoulder the best way?
Kimberly
If you are looking to make video tutors then instead of using cam i will suggest is to go for screen recorder.
Simply Google...."Screen Recorder"....You may get some free tools check that out
Jing is great for this. you can find it at www.jingproject.com. It's a small program that is great for quick instructional videos for your employees. you can't edit or polish it, but it is really quick and easy.
If you're looking for tracking what people are doing, like cheating husbands, then www.spectresoft.com or something similar would be better.

Hello, I am just getting around to starting this project. I wanted to stop in and tell you this Encoder seems do what I need in a simple way. I can edit it in my Sony Vegas after I finish. Only problem is I did not realize how often I back space to correct my horrible spelling when I type and this doing perfect typing is not as easy as I thought it would be. lol lol lol
Thanks, this software is a big help at the right price!
