Thumbs up Problem in getting different state images of USA map in html by using CSS?

Hi forum, Thanking for your help several time when I was in a mess. Here’s I am again, I am just trying to put a map in my web page. This is USA map where we have almost 50 states. I am just trying to get a separate image for every state, so I can able to put some behaviors on each state image.
In Photoshop we have this slice image feature but it only slices in square shape where as in our state images are not in a particular shape. Please advice me how to do that, is there any other way to slice the image in different shapes.
This effect i have already created using the flash but now i want it in html using CSS. The map which i have created by using flash is attached as a reference. I am looking for the same effects by using CSS. Please advice me ........Thanks a lot.

Make the areas of the image slice that you don't want to see transparent.
With an image map in html you would define the area using co-ordinates.

You cut out a rectangular shape then make the areas you don't want to see transparent.
