Web Page in Windows Media Player?

I am totally new to XML, and I'm not even sure that I should be asking my question here.

Recently I clicked a link that launched my Windows Media Player, and as well as hearing music, there was content in the main WMP window. It looked like a web page, something like the Media Guide, and the content in the Real One player window. I would like to be able to do this, stream the content of a web page in the main WMP or Real player window. How do I do this please?

I was advised that it might be done using smil and/or XML. I am not an internet newbie, I am very experienced in graphics and audio software, but not in web site creation, so please bear this in mind with any help you might be able to offer .. basically, please explain it like I was 5 years old

    Thank very much!
    Quetz.
