Use JavaScript to fill in username in URL

Hi,

I need help getting the username parameter in a href url filled in from a JavaScript pop up.

For example the user would load the site and a pop up would appear asking them for their username.

Then that username would fill in the "UN=" in http://test.com/start?UN=USERNAME&PW=1 in a href link.

Anyone?

That's what forms do without using JavaScript.
