Can you combine 2 text variables into one?

Let's say I have these variables:
$text1 which is "This is text"
and
$text2 which is "More text"

Is it possible to do this:
$text3=text1+text2,
so that $text3 would be "This is textMore text"?

If not, is there a way to do it?
