    blog tags - how do they work

    Hello,

    When you write a blog with say blogger or wordpress, there is also a section for tagging the article. Where do those tags go exactly and how are they valuable in terms of seo? How does it work?

    Hi..Tagging a blog means specifying keywords for our blogs.Those tags are like meta tags in a web page.They helpful in making our web page indexing in top positions of google search engine.So don't forget tagging your blog while designing.That will be a great source of indexing your site on search engine.

    Thumbs up

    I always recommend using good labels / tags in blog posts.

    I've found the tags / labels to be particularly good in linking blog postings with similar content, and now use those labels as an automaticly generated tag cloud within the navigation of the page on some sites with large amounts of posts.

    I use this primarily to help physical users to get the right post content on topics they may be interested in. But generally, if it's good for humans, search engines like it too.

    In particular though, some of my clients have noticed that using keyword labels on some of their blog posts, about names of people in the news (and then talking about them in the blog post, in the same industry) has sometimes given that post a higher search ranking result for a few days, than the official website of that person!

    Good blog Labels / keywords / tags = Good

    Tags also help people locate your post when searching within wordpress or blogger plus if your tag appears in site's tag cloud in a prominent way then a lot of people would click on that tag leading to your post.

    Tags should be of what type,useful for physical user in the sense?
    Are they helpful for user to get additional information on same content?

    You could think of them like an book index.. ie if you wrote a blog about web development.. and then occasionally wrote about SEO, using SEO, or 'Search Engine Optimisation' would be good tags to put with that blog post.. so someone who read one particular post about SEO, could then click on that tag at the base of the post, or on the navigation area tag cloud if you have it, to view your other posts of other things they might be interested in.

    The more tags - the bigger are the chances of Internet visitors to find your blog (or blogs)! But if the quantity of tags is limited, you need to be creative and write as precise, as possible. However, tags can only help you. Why not to use this additional opportunity?

    thanks for the answers, as far as explaining the usage. so as far as the other question, where these tags are going, they are going to the meta tag section right? Should I write a script so that they go to the meta tag section? and in what format?

    <meta name="keywords" content="autos, auto, auto news" />
    <meta name="description" content="autos, auto, auto news" />

    something like this / in this format? which one?

    so again, where exactly do blog tags go?

    In my opinion, these tags can be used for your promotion and the anchor text that you use.
