    PHP and XML

I have a website that uses PHP to parse XML files.

Several pages require two XML files: teams.xml (which is 14 KB in size) and players.xml (189 KB). Two pages require a third: "draft_top_2009.xml" (there WILL be a "draft_top_2010.xml").

Would it allow for faster processing if I combined teams.xml and players.xml?

Off-hand I don't know, and it might depend on a number of interrelated factors. Probably the only way to tell for sure in your particular situation is to try both ways with some metering in place to determine the difference, if any. (My instinct is that loading separate files requires some additional overhead, but then that might be offset by having to manipulate larger data sets for each operation, thus I don't know. )

Hmmm... I'll try that. I did forget to mention that these files have to be validated. (and I have an external DTD)

Well, I did try, and it seems that the BIG XML file takes longer.
