    what dimension do i need for my banner?

    i tried 950x150px but my screen 15" and another screen 19" shows the banner with about 1/3 space on either size. what should i do? i am using fireworks.

    You should also consider the average user resolution of 1024x768. this means the page would be 1024 width, but you have to take the scrollbar in account.

    still, the standard sizes are on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_banner#Standard_sizes

    The inches of your screen do not apply, just the resolutions

    What we do at work is pick a solid color as a background and lay that as the background color to a div and then center the banner footer within that. That gives the appearance that is fits across the whole screen without having to create a bunch of different banners for each resolution.
