    Exclamation I need help!!!

    So, my boss at a small cafe asked me to put together a website for the cafe where you can order online. i've got almost all of it done but I've run into a bit of a snag with the order form.
    The way I've set it up is you select the category of your first item (sandwich, drink, salad, soup, etc.). Once you select that, the rest of the form for that item drops down and you pick what you want on the stuff. All of that works. The problem I'm having trouble with is trying to add more items than 1. I have created a 2nd SPAN area to place the second menu in but i want to use the same function i used the first time.
    So i guess what i'm asking is, is there a way to create a SPAN each time the "add item" button is clicked? and also add a new form field?

    Also, i have to have this done by tomorrow so time is crucial. thanks!

    LOL, more importantly, you'll need something sever side like PHP
    Got php?

    If you're serious about taking orders online, you need to store those orders independent from the visitors machine. That means, the form needs to write to a file on your server.
    It only begins there. Customers might want the option to pay with credit, pick up the order and go. How are you going to secure the page so creeps don't pick off the numbers?

    Right now, We're just setting it up with e-mailing the form to us. There's no payment on the site at all. I'll look into that later for improving it but basically, this is the business' last hope of not going under and we're just trying to get our name out there a little more.

    Hmm, the more interesting problem is graphics. What does your business card look like?

    We've done all the advertising we possibly can. Now we're going for convenience. If you can help me with this coding then please help me. That's really all I'm looking for right now.

    Apologies in advance for not answering your actual question, but I thought I'd try to clear up a possible misapprehension: If you're intending to have the email sent on the client side (i.e. by the web browser) -- that doesn't really work. You can say form action="mailto:joe@example.com", but that may not do what you think it does:

    http://www.isolani.co.uk/articles/mailto.html

    However, there are some very simple CGI scripts out there that allow you to arrange for a form post. If you're completely new to this kind of thing, though, you may have a long night ahead of you!

    I know at least 2 ways to do this but one is significantly easier than the other.
    Both methods require some knowledge of JavaScript and php, but you can't do much web development without them (well, php can be replaced but is probably the best alternative for server-side scripting).

    Make a form that contains "enough" input fields. Give all the input fields a unique ID (input1, input2 etc.). Make all except the first "hidden". You can then change the visibility status to "visible" on an as-needed basis.
    To process the form you send it to a script that can process it, and in time can e-mail the result to you.

    The other way implicates building the form, which demands better knowledge of the DOM and how to create new elements. Much more complicated.
    Sorry if this comes late.

    I've already got all the form i need. What i've done is i've made a single drop down menu for the FIRST ITEM where the visitor can select what type of item they want (no details). Once they choose the category, the rest of the form for that item drops down (using the onChange thing). This all works perfectly fine. My problem is, i don't know how to let them add another item while using the same function (the one that causes the drop down of the rest of the item) without overriding what they've already filled in.

    As for the email submission. I've used this before and it is what I want. I've tested it on this page and it works just as i wanted it to for now. I am going to look into CGI scripts but right now I'm just trying to get this up and running without any problems.

    also, here is the code (i've removed some options from the form for the sake of space):

    Code:
    <html>
    <head>
    <script type="text/javascript">

    function setup(ans) {
      txt = ''

      if (ans == 'hot') {
    txt = '<span id="choose">Please select a Hot Drink:</span><br>'
    txt = txt + '<select name="HotBar">'
    txt = txt + '<option value="">- Please Select -</option>'

    I apologize for my previous post. I read your link and see the flaw in my thinking with it. I've found a quick tutorial on that and am working on putting a php script in there. I still really need to be able to add more than 1 item. if anyone can help me, that would be awesome!

    OK OK OK, make it complicated if you really want to!

    If you are using email submission it MAY work with Internet Explorer, but hardly with any other browser.
    Instead of looking into cgi scripts, learn php (Some would say that they are the same, but php is more specific and not browser dependent).

    The construct "txt = txt + ...." is probably not the most efficient one. See the previous post, which also has some simplifications using loops instead of repetitions. I would say that doing most of this on the server side would be much easier, especially for debugging.

    However, doing this the "right way" is not a one day job.
